DEPARTMENT FACTS

 

The Lansing Police Department is located in the South Suburbs of the City of Chicago, Illinois. The community borders Munster, Indiana to our east, Calumet City to the north, Thornton to the west and Lynwood to the south. It is a culturally diverse community of 28,331 citizens.

 

The Department currently has 55 sworn full-time Police Officers, 8 sworn part-time Police Officers, and 19 full-time civilian employees. The organization is divided into 2 divisions; Field Services and Support Services. The Field Services Division contains the following operational divisions: Patrol and Criminal Investigations (including Tactical Operations, Juvenile, School Resource, and Emergency Response Team). The Support Services contains the following divisions: Community Policing, Telecommunications, Records, Management Support, Building Maintenance and Animal Control.

 

The Lansing Police Department responds to approx. 27,000 calls for service annually. All calls are received through our 24 hour Telecommunications Center. The center dispatches for Police, Fire and Emergency Medical Services.
